Domestic drilling

GASS has spent more than a decade honing its drilling skills. We invest in the latest technology and incorporate research-led alternatives to offer our clients a well-informed and cost-effective solution. Moreover, we hire staff and field specialist with industry experience and the proven skills to sharpen our skillset. Our team has been drilling monitoring and abstraction boreholes since 2014. To date, our drilling team has installed more than 5500 boreholes for various clients throughout South Africa. Owing to South African’s geology, specifically, 95% of the country underlain by hard rock formations, we use rotary air percussion drilling as our preferred drilling method. Our HQ is in Durban, which has an extensive coastal stretch of unconsolidated sediments, so we also have considerable experience in mud rotary drilling and using foam-drilling techniques to install monitoring wells in these formations. We are also skilled in more specialised investigations such as down the hole borehole geophysics investigations and have worked on projects involving temperature and electrical conductivity profiling and down the hole camera investigations up to depths of 150 meters.

As a specialist contractor with environmental and domestic water drilling capabilities, GASS uses high-tech equipment. We currently have two trailer mounted Spider drill rigs capable of drilling up to 200m. One drill rig is located in the Gauteng area and concentrates on the domestic water supply market while the other rig is located in Durban and concentrates on the contamination market.  These trailer mounted units make them ideal for drilling in areas with limited access due to the small footprint of the drill rig. We can get into the small tight spaces that the larger drill rigs are unable to - this gives us a distinct advantage in the marketplace.

Assured solutions backed up by innovative equipment

Both rigs have the capability of drilling mud rotary without having to dig mud pits. We utilize IBC tanks as our temporary pits, and this negates the need for excavation permits and saves the client time and money that is normally spent on the digging of the pits.  Overall there is a cost reduction and a time saving on projects using this method.
