Surface and groundwater sampling
GASS is a proven specialist at assisting
its clients with all surface and groundwater monitoring requirements. We have
been consistently investing in the latest equipment to offer low-flow and
conventional purge sampling, in addition to passive diffusive or grab sampling.
We have secured samples up to depths of 180 m below the surface using
bladder-pump technology.
Groundwater and surface water sampling have
formed the foundation of the company’s earliest services since its inception.
The team has acquired the skills and equipment to complete any monitoring
project. We have ongoing contracts with clients throughout Africa having worked
in Benin, Mozambique, Tanzania, Namibia, Botswana, and Swaziland. Our team is
skilled at conducting conventional purge and sample, low-flow sampling
according to EPA methodology and grab sampling from surface water and
groundwater sources using bailers or specific grab-sampling equipment.
Moreover, we have the in-house capabilities to source, manufacture and maintain
site-specific sampling equipment according to clients’ needs.
We have a full range of QED bladder pumps
capable of sampling from depths up to 180 m and the appropriate pneumatic
controllers to operate the pumps. Our QED sample pro pump is a simple bladder
pump that can be stripped in the field for decontamination in minutes and then
reassembled to sample the next borehole. Our pumps range in diameter from 15 mm
to 140 mm, which affords us the advantage to sample the narrowest piezometers.
GASS also has all the necessary ancillary
equipment to offer a professional sampling service. The spec of in-house
equipment includes a range of interface meters, water level meters, flow-thru
cells, Hanna multiparameter, hand-held pH, DO and EC meters, cooler boxes,
Heron level temperature and conductivity (LTC) meters, field cameras capable of
recording up to 150 meters below ground level and photoionization
detectors (PID's).
Soil and sediment sampling constitutes an
integral part of a site characterization investigation. Correctly collecting
soil or sediment samples is imperative to make educated assessments of site
conditions. We have a proven track record of working on hundreds of
investigations in which we have seconded team members and equipment to assist
with obtaining representative samples. GASS is equipped to obtain soil and/or
sediment samples from up to 8 meters below ground. We work with innovative equipment
such as Shelby tubes and split spoon samplers, and hand augers. We also have
direct push capabilities.
